Blabby AI causes in-game lag & freezes on the same PC – anyone else?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently using Blabby AI for speech-to-text on my PC and I’m running into a pretty consistent issue.

Whenever Blabby AI is running in the background and I’m gaming on the same computer, I get noticeable lag, stuttering, or freezes in-game. As soon as I close Blabby AI, the problem disappears immediately.
So I’m confident the issue is directly related to Blabby AI running at the same time.

Because of this, I constantly have to turn Blabby AI on and off while playing, which obviously isn’t ideal.

A few questions to the community:

  • Has anyone else experienced performance issues while gaming with Blabby AI running?

  • Does this happen with other speech-to-text tools as well, or is it specific to Blabby?

  • Are there any known settings, workarounds, or optimizations (CPU/GPU usage, process priority, audio settings, etc.) to prevent this?

  • Would running Blabby AI on a second machine be the only real solution?

Happy to provide system specs if helpful.
Looking forward to hearing if others have seen similar behavior or found a fix.

Thanks!

    Thanks for the quick follow-up.

To clarify the issue a bit more:
While I’m playing League of Legends in fullscreen mode, the game regularly jumps back to the Windows desktop . Suddenly I’m back in the Windows view with all open windows visible, and sometimes the desktop/windows feel unresponsive or glitchy for a moment.

When this happens, I have to click back into the game and reopen it, which breaks gameplay. This doesn’t happen constantly, but every few minutes, and only while Blabby AI is running. As soon as I close Blabby AI, the issue stops completely.

It’s not a classic FPS drop or input delay — it’s more like an unexpected focus switch from fullscreen game → desktop.
Interestingly, this doesn’t happen in every game, but it’s very noticeable in League of Legends.

I’m playing on the same PC where Blabby AI is running.

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400 CPU @ 2.90GHz (2.90 GHz),

    16,0 GB RAM ,

    64-Bit Win 11

Happy to test or monitor anything specific if that helps narrow it down.

I think I know what’s causing that. Some users previously reported that the Blabby toolbar could get hidden behind other windows when they take focus. To address that, we added a mechanism that periodically refocuses the Blabby toolbar to keep it on top, and I believe that’s what you’re experiencing.

This should be an easy fix
Other than that, are you having any performance issues?

Hey Cosimo, thanks for reporting this.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by “noticeable lag”?
Is it FPS drops or input delay (mouse/keyboard)?

Also, could you share your PC specs?

One more thing I noticed that might be related:
While I’m in-game, I sometimes hover my mouse over the area where the Blabby toolbar appears. It might be connected to that, because in some cases the Blabby toolbar overlays parts of the game UI.

It’s not a huge visual issue by itself, but I did notice that the toolbar occasionally appears on top of the game, which makes me think the focus switch to the desktop could be related to how the overlay or toolbar handles window focus.

This part still feels a bit buggy, so I wanted to mention it in case it helps narrow things down.
